Python appears to be the look of the past season – and year – on handbags. Celebrity style blog Purse Blog has spotted various stars with python skin handbags and clutches. While celebrities with python handbags are nothing new, this particular post highlights various stars that have been seen with python or lizard skin handbags and clutches. In the picture in the post, this includes Jennifer Lopez, some of the Kardashian sisters, and Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria. What is it about python, and other reptile prints, that has made it so popular this season?
While many fashion trends simply just happen, python and other prints can, almost, be seen as a poor man’s crocodile print handbag. While real python print handbags by top designers can run at least $800, compared to crocodile skin handbags by Hermes and other designers totaling from $10,000 to $30,000 per bag, this amount is just pocket change (apologies for the pun). With a smaller handbag made of less exclusive skins, anyone with additional cash to spare (and this probably includes celebrities who haven’t had a hit film or CD in a few years) can have an authentic reptile-print pocketbook.
What about the rest of us who want that celebrity style but can’t fork over a month’s worth of rent for a handbag? Various retailers of handbags have several options for capturing this look. Wholesale handbag retailers often carry some of the latest styles seen by celebrities, only, at affordable prices, the python skin handbags are actually python print. This often means that leather or patent leather has been printed with a snakeskin pattern (or a crocodile pattern), and the physical print and pattern is designed to look like the real thing. As colored snake skin is also a popular trend right now, these python print handbags are dyed or tinted in various colors.
