Western Colors Seen on Celebrities

We’ve seen various western styles on younger celebrities, and this includes python and alligator skin purses, fringe, and metal studs on a leather or suede bag. Another aspect of western fashion is the color choices, and this is particularly prevalent in western jewelry. While horse pendants and dream catcher earrings are often thought of as western jewelry, western stone jewelry is another option. Western stones, or those typically found in southwestern states like Arizona, often include turquoise, onyx, coral, crystal, amethyst, and sandstone. Out of this selection, coral is actually the most versatile in color options, ranging from light pink to orange to red. In terms of jewelry, red is the most common type of coral stone color, although pieces using pink and orange can be found, as well.

How does this necessarily pertain to celebrity style? Over the past month, Bridget Jones’ Diary star Renee Zellweger was snapped with a coral colored Hermes handbag. In the handbag world, Hermes is a brand associated with large purses made from selected crocodile skins. The handbags can cost up to $30,000, but the bag Zellweger is sporting doesn’t appear to be of the crocodile skin variety. Instead, the unique style aspect about Zellweger’s Hermes handbag is the color choice – orange coral. Instead of being bright orange or tangerine, the handbag, instead, has the orange, sandy shade of a western coral stone.

Coral, red or orange, isn’t the only shade of western stone seen on a celebrity handbag. Anne Hathaway, actress in Brokeback Mountain and Rachel at the Wedding, was photographed with a turquoise colored Chanel handbag this past July. Trends, in general, have erred on the gaudy and bright side this past year, from Ed Hardy-like tattoo designs to purple dyed snakeskin purses, and having leather handbags colored in western stone shades fits right in with the selection.
