Fashion Week in New York City is known as one of the world’s biggest and best fashion events, where famous designers show our their new goods and young upstart designers hope to break out. It is also a haven for the hottest celebs and newest trends that are sweeping across Hollywood, New York and the world over. This year’s New York Fashion Week is absolutely stuffed with exciting news about handbags and what’s coming in the next year.
Firstly, Britain’s favorite soccer wife, ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham dropped a minor bombshell on the attendees of her 2011 Spring line of clothing and accessories – she wants her handbags to take over for Birkins! According to this report, Victoria was overheard saying “A Beckham can replace your Birkin,” which is definitely a bit of a slap to the face of Birkin manufacturer Hermes. Beckham’s ready to wear collection has done well, particularly with the A-list fashion elite, but can her western-style handbags take over Hermes’ stronghold on the bag market?
Elie Tahari, powerhouse designer, used Fashion Week as a launching pad for his new line of handbags just a few days ago. Tahari’s new line features the ever-popular hobo style bag, a large tote style bag with very soft and delicate features. These bags featured high quality soft leather and braided double top handles for ease of carrying, either over the shoulder or by your side. Ten bucks says that Jessica Alba will have one of these by week’s end.
Finally, the eponymous handbag and “I Love New York” tee shirt designer Rebecca Minkoff debuted her new line of clothing and accessories earlier this week to raves from all around the internet and media. Minkoff is apparently back to ready to wear clothing, as opposed to focusing on bags, seeing as her Morning After bag is all over the place as it is. It’s pretty hard to argue with continued success, wouldn’t you say?
