Handbag Crime All Over the World

This week, the Best Handbag Wholesale blog is taking a bit of a darker look at the handbag industry and how handbags play a role in some crimes that have taken place recently. Criminals have been looking at western-style handbags as a viable way of making off with a lot of loot when devising robberies and muggings. Today, we’re going to look at a few of these stories:

In Boston, Massachusetts, there is a Chanel store on Newbury Street, a high profile shopping area in the city. This store was stocked to the brim with top-of-the-line couture handbags and fashion until some robbers decided to hit the store up for more than $100,000 worth of bags and other goods. According to the story from NECN, a similar robbery took place at the Louis Vuitton store twice last month at Copley Place Mall. More than 40 bags were taken from the Chanel store in total.

Across the pond, there has been a recent rash of crime around Brimbank, Australia, primarily focusing on women carrying purses. A story from the Australian branch of Star News Group says that there have been 17 robbery crimes in the past month, seven of which were handbag snatches:

“Many of the robberies were targeted towards elderly women. In one case, an offender approached his victim from behind and cut her handbag strap with a knife. A passerby who attempted to chase down the robber was also threatened with a knife. [Senior] Sgt Grove told Star police had worked hard to drive down the statistics, with hundreds of officers flooding the city during operations targeting violence and street crimes.”
