In a lot of ways, your personal fashion and the items you choose to buy are a reflection of parts of your personality. You might like to wear rhinestone t-shirts with cross designs when you go out because they show a different side of your wardrobe. You might wear floral dresses accented with western style flip flops in the summer because you enjoy gardening in the warm weather. No matter what type of style you show in your clothing and accessories, designers are beginning to take notice, sometimes in ways you might not expect.
For instance, the National Football League (NFL) has begun working within the fashion industry, working to sell more deluxe sports fashion items to female fans. According to an article in Slate, the league is stepping up its attention to female fashion, even bringing in celebrities to help launch new designs:
“These days, the NFL is wooing female shoppers with a clothing line from actress (and sports fan) Alyssa Milano, featuring tees in flattering cuts and fabrics. (Milano has a bit of a cottage industry going on, having previously lent her expertise to a line for Major League Baseball.) There are nail polish sets in primary and secondary team colors, so you can create your own NFL nail art. Last year, women’s winter boots were a big hit.”
When it comes to handbags, the article says, the NFL has brought in some fashion heavyweights. Anastasio Moda, a designer based in Italy, has been creating a number of different NFL handbag styles for all different kinds of fans. From tote-style Packers handbags to high-end jeweled Giants clutches, there is a look for every female football fan. This foray into serious women’s fashion isn’t a shock to the fashion world, especially since women make up a third of the NFL’s audience:
“The NFL is easily the favorite sports league of women 12 and over, with Major League Baseball a distant second. In 2010, 93 million women (almost four out of five) watched some part of the NFL season.”
