With the demand for luxury fashion items increasing, the market for fakes is becoming larger, too. Some people want the expensive look for less money, while other do not even know they are buying a fake. Here are some tips to pick out the fakes, so you won’t be fooled!
Research the Designer
Get yourself familiar with the brand. Do some research online to see what that designer does that is unique. Some designers will have specific logos, designs, or patterns on their product that you can look for when buying something of theirs. If you are not buying from a direct vendor, you need to be careful and scrutinize every part of the product before buying it. Even the way the product is packaged could be a clue to whether or not it is a fake. When buying online, you really have to inspect the seller and the goods, because in 2010 counterfeit goods sold online was a 200 billion dollar industry. It is harder to pick out a fake online, because you do not see the actual product and they can post a picture that is deceiving. The most counterfeited designer products sold online are watches, bags, and designer clothing.
Watches
A watch is one of the easier items to duplicate. Some things you can do to identify that it is real is look for inscriptions of the brand name and check for misspellings and imperfections of the logo. You can also look at how the watch works because expensive watches have specific characteristics that make them who they are. A Rolex, for instance, has a sweeping second hand and knock offs may have one that ticks. If you can familiarize yourself with the brand you want you will be able to identify these small details and save yourself from buying a fake.
Bags
Knockoff designer bags are increasing in popularity in today’s society. If you are looking to buy a designer bag, you should look on their official website to see the position of the logo and other landmarks. Look at the quality of the stitching on the bag, because fakes are very often poorly made and that is where it shows. If the stitching is not straight or frays, then it is probably not authentic. Luxury bags are expensive, but they are also well made, so you will not get poor quality. Check the inside of the bag for tags or stamps that are unique to the brand you want; most designer brands have tags and stamps that all their bags will have.
Clothing
Spotting a designer clothing fake can be more difficult. You should again check the stitching and tags. Designers will often use colored stitching that is hard to imitate. It is all about familiarizing yourself with the designer and their style.
If the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is. If you want to make sure it is authentic, then just use the company’s official website or go to one of their stores. You will have to pay full price but then again they are LUXURY items.
