Alexander Wang, an American fashion designer known for starting his own label when he was only 22, is now the creative director for Balenciaga and is getting ready to launch a new handbag line called Le Dix.
Wang shot to stardom in 2005 with his unique and stylish handbag collection and Balenciaga is hoping he can repeat that success. The new handbag collection promises a reverence for the storied history of Balenciaga while adding Wang’s trained eye for modern luxury.
The aesthetics of the new handbags promise to borrow from Wang’s trademark street wear minimalism and early prototypes feature a satchel shape and colors that include forest green, pale gray and black. Wang was looking for a real departure from Balenciaga’s “It” bag, a motorcycle style that was popular with celebrities and the fashion elite for over a decade.
For years Balenciaga was known for edgy studs, buckles, zippers and stitches but with Wang on board expect a stripped down style that will usher in a new era of simple but stylish women’s purses.
The new handbags from Wang will range from $995 for the pochette to $2,250 for the largest size. The bags will be available for Fall 2013 and those interested in checking out the available designs can see several models at Fashionologie.com.
