Choosing a handbag is about more than style and practicality. The right bag can also compliment your body type and make you look and feel more attractive.
If you want to play down a particular aspect of your body type, you should choose a handbag with an opposite characteristic or appearance. For example, if you are very tall and thin, you can carry a slouchy rounded bag to add an appearance of curves. If you want to play down a curvy figure, choose a handbag with a structured, square or rectangular shape or a sleek bag, such as a clutch. If you are short, choose a longer handbag.
You should also consider what you will carry in your handbag. If you only carry a few things, you can opt for a smaller bag, but if you like to have a lot of things with you at all times, you will need a large enough bag. However, the size of the bag you choose should be proportionate to your body size and shape. If you are tall and heavy, don’t choose a tiny bag. If you are short and petite, don’t go with a huge handbag, because it will look overwhelming.
The area where your handbag rests against your body will accentuate that area. A bag that rests near your hips will draw attention to that area. Most women look good with a handbag that hangs to the mid-torso area because it accentuates the waist.
When you are shopping for a handbag, try on several in front of a mirror, just as you would try on clothes. Consider the size and shape of the bag and how low it hangs, as well as your body type, when making a selection. Do not choose a design that is trendy if it does not compliment your individual body type. What looks good on someone else might not be right for you. Take all of these factors into consideration when choosing your handbag.
