Salvatore Ferragamo has created a new collection of Fiamma handbags to commemorate the 86-year history of the Italian leather goods company.
The Fiamma collection of handbags is inspired by Fiamma Ferragamo, the daughter of company founder Salvatore Ferragamo. Fiamma served as the brand’s leather accessories and shoe designer for nearly four decades before her death in 1998. Fiamma Ferragamo designed the classic Vara pump, a round-toed, low-heeled shoe with grosgrain ribbon and a gold-buckle accent with the Ferragamo symbol. The shoes are still popular even today.
The Fiamma handbags were designed by Massimiliano Giornetti, the company’s creative director. The bags use famous Ferragamo features, such as a 1970s foulard silk print lining and novelty hardware that draws inspiration from early designs. Salvatore Ferragamo wanted to present the brand’s history in a way that would appeal to younger customers.
The handbags are available in an assortment of colored leathers with semi-circle handles and functional front pockets that can be locked. The collection also includes smaller handbags crafted with combinations of materials, including snakeskin and fur, some of which were debuted in Milan earlier this year.
Fiamma Ferragamo also worked to give recognition to women and families for their unique talents, achievements, and styles. To honor her legacy, Giornetti and others at Salvatore Ferragamo have created a short film showcasing the accomplishments of women from prominent international families. The families were chosen for their style and dedication to art, culture, charity, and family and for their success in various fields. The film will be premiered when the Fiamma handbag line is formally launched at a global event to be held in New York later this month.
