Artcurial, an auction house based in Paris, will be selling about 100 vintage Hermes handbags at the Yacht Club in Monaco on January 20.
The bags are expected to sell for thousands, and in some cases hundreds of thousands, of dollars each. Since its first auction of Hermes bags in 2005, Artcurial has broken several records for sale prices. It set a record for a Kelly bag that it auctioned off in 2015.
Hermes handbags are widely popular with buyers around the world. Christie’s Hong Kong set an all-time record when it sold a Birkin bag in June 2015. The value of Hermes vintage bags is estimated to increase at an average rate of 8 percent per year, making them sought-after investments.
Artcurial’s auction will include a carefully curated group of Hermes bags. It will feature bags made from rare leathers and exotic skins, such as a 1992 Kelly made from pink leather and a 2005 Constance bag made from red goat skin. A rare Birkin made from Nilo crocodile is expected to be a highlight of the sale. It has diamond and white gold trimming and a subtle color reminiscent of the Himalayas.
Hermes bags are widely recognized as timeless works of art made with excellent skill, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. They are considered wise investments because their value consistently increases as they age.
When considering purchasing an Hermes bag, one factor to consider is the size. In the Artcurial auction, 25-centimeter Birkin bags are rarer than 30-centimeter bags. Texture and color are other important considerations. The auction will include bags with a wide variety of textures and colors.
