Before the blatant brand-as-fashion styles that exploded in the late 1990s, most handbags simply had a simple monogram or metal name plate on the purse so everyone knew that, yes, it’s a designer bag. One design that became popular over the past decade as the result of this has been the monogram-as-pattern purse. This style, seen on designer handbags by Gucci, Coach, and Louis Vuitton, has the brand’s initials or logo printed on the fabric covering the handbag. On the lower end of designer styles, Coach has a double “C” logo printed in light brown on dark brown across the leather or cloth fabric of the brand, while, for a brighter twist, Louis Vuitton handbags, typically, have the “LV” logo in bold or bright shades printed on a field of white. As these bags essentially scream “Designer!” to anyone, these basic styles continue to remain popular for all age groups.
But what if you don’t want to shell out cash for one of these designer bags? Often, there are two options for purchasing a monogram purse. The first that many go to is down the designer knockoff route, in which the fabric on these designer monogram handbags is emulated letter for letter but the bag is poorly put together. Although the fabric may not unravel right away, the metal name plate – yes, many monogram handbags still have a metal name plate – is glued on, instead of screwed in, and will fall off at some point. The zipper may also look shoddy and jam at some point. Aside from the fact that making and selling handbags like this is illegal, a Louis Vuitton-looking bag may cost $40 instead of $400.
The honest (and legal) route is to look for monogram purses not by designers. Discount and wholesale retailers often sell these types of monogram handbags. These particular handbags follow similar color schemes to that of Gucci and Coach designer bags, only the logo isn’t identical and, up close, won’t look like the real purse. In addition, the price is more affordable and, as these wholesale and discount handbags aren’t put together in a haphazard manner, they won’t fall apart on you.
