It is no secret that Americans are interested in the goings-on of the British royal family, especially when you look at the stronghold they have on influencing fashion all over the world. When the world watched the wedding of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, the conversation immediately turned into a dissection of Kate’s wedding dress and whether or not it was the right choice. In the days that followed, dressmakers created lower-cost versions of the dress for stores. However popular the new Duchess’s dress has become, her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth has been a fashion icon for the entirety of her reign.
This was shown recently at the Queen’s birthday celebration, known as the Diamond Jubilee. During the public festivities, the Queen carried one of her ‘go-to’ handbag brand, Launer London. In turn, the brand reported an increase in handbag sales, according to The Telegraph:
“Following the long weekend of public Diamond Jubilee celebrations earlier this month, the Queen’s go-to handbag label, Launer London, has reported a 58 per cent increase in demand. Her Majesty was seen toting three custom-made styles in black during the festivities, which resulted in admirers of her style bombard the brand’s website with requests for similar, boxy-shaped bags…”
The article says that this same type of attention was aimed at the designer label after the Royal Wedding, during which the Queen carried a handmade cream-colored handbag. Her influence has been so important to the label’s image that many handbag wholesalers have been snatching up similar bags for sale in their stores.
It is important for store owners and fashion retailers to keep their wares updated with the current trends in the fashion industry and celebrity lifestyle. The royal family falls right in line with this ideal, as the Queen and Duchess of Cambridge have shown.
